Tour of Zapatera Island:
Full day tour, visiting Isla El Muerto or Dead Island. Zapatera Island and
Granada peninsula with its 365 islands.
History:
Indigenous people from times past left behind royal tombs, sacrificial stone
altars, and gigantic statuary idols on this enormous island, offering clues into
their curious history.
Based on independent written accounts kept by mid-nineteenth century travelers
Carl Bovalius of Sweden and Ephraim George Squier of the United States, this
island was the site of pilgrimages where the ancient Chorotegas built altars,
made religious images and offered sacrifices. Isla Zapatera, about an hour away
by boat, is now protected as a national park. The statues have been removed for
safe-keeping in museums near and far, for example at the Convent San Francisco
in Granada. (see city tour Granada), but other fascinating structures, many
hidden in lush vegetation, remain and can be viewed by visiting this open-air
archaeological treasure trove.
Price: US$ 75 each
Minimum of two persons

All included:
- Transports by land and water.
- Entrance fees
- Bilingual and knowledgeable guide

Join us at this miracle, visit La Flor Wildlife Refuge. This is an amazing deserted beach at the pacific
coast. You will see turtles coming out of the sea to lay their eggs. If you're lucky you can
witness 'la arribada', the big arrival of thousands of paslama turtles.
Or there will be popping up out of the ground thousands of paslama turtles looking their way to the sea. They will need your help, danger is all around them, crabs who suck them down in their holes, birds who come down and enjoy an easy meal.
What to do?
Enjoy, relax, take pictures and be witness of this ancient miracle. See how the
turtles prepare and make their nests, how they lay eggs and how they cover it up before heading back to the sea. Or together with park rangers and the army, you will help to dug out
turtle nests, protect and collect them so later you can help them to the sea.
We will provide you with tents or you could bring your hammock.
